He said that he would continue to work for the supremacy of the Parliament.Later, talking to media persons at his residence, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain confirmed the report and said that the act was not meant to forge an alliance with PPP from their side or seeking ministries.“Those who have applied for the slot of opposition leader should enjoy the privileges of opposition as well as government side,” he added.
PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain called for immediate summoning of a joint session of the Parliament to devise a national consensus over strategic national issues, including external threats.“The country is facing numerous external threats, therefore, we need to forge unity amongst our ranks, rising above all petty personal and parochial interests,” he added.Flanked by PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed and Secretary Information Tariq Azeem, Shujaat said the politicians should get rid of personal egos playing with the galleries. “We should adopt a national approach and evolve national consensus. We are against adopting any anti-democratic tactics to destabilise the Punjab government. We are in touch with PML-N and Governor Punjab at the same time,” he said.Answering a question about PML-Q forward bloc in Punjab, Shujaat said deviating from the party line in the presidential poll did not mean that those MPAs had defected. “Since there was a secret ballot in presidential poll, there was violation of party decision. However, that does not mean that they have defected,” he said. “PML-Q legislators, workers and office-bearers are being targeted in Sindh and Punjab provinces,” he claimed
