Punjab rulers will have to render account for their excesses: Moonis Elahi

Moonis Elahi said this while addressing Nazmeens of union councils and Naib Nazmeens from Lahore here Monday in connection with party reorganization campaign. PML-Q Lahore president Mian Muhammad Munir was also present there.

Voicing protest on freezing of development funds by Punjab government and the illegal steps being taken by un-elected coordinators at the behest of provincial government, Nazmeens and Naib Nazmeens said unethical tactics were being used to buy their loyalties under the threats of termination of services of their relatives.

Terming Chaudhry Pervez Elahi era as historical with reference to development of Punjab they said Chaudhry Pervez Elahi had provided funds to address the problem of people at grass root level. “We now sit among our people with a sense of pride due to development works”, they added.

Moonis Elahi congratulated the Nazmeens for showing courageous support to PML-Q adding the funds provided during PML- Q led government were spent for the uplift of common man as a sacred trust. PML-Q culture was culture of dignity and reverence, he remarked. Atta at lower rate was available to every one without any token. People never faced any problem to search for any Sustay Tandoor in PML government in the province.

People were passing through worst ever time of their life due to unannounced loadshedding at present, he regretted.

“We have full trust on conscious people that they would take right decision in future through comparison between past and present”, he remarked. Strength of PML is strength of Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam, he added

Moonis Elahi Blog News: Shujaat Rules Out Merger With PML-N

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Friday denied reports of any merger between his party and the PML-N, saying the doors of his party were open for dialogue with all the political parties in the larger national interest.

“The dialogue process within the political parties should not be attributed as merger and our party will keep its identity intact while sitting in the opposition.” He was talking to newsmen here at his residence after chairing the first meeting of the newly-constituted advisory committee of the Q-League. The meeting approved the organisational plan of the party.

Talking to newsmen along with former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and party secretary-general Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Shujaat said his party would keep its identity intact while remaining in the opposition.

“There was an impression that the PML-Q always remained in power corridors but now our party is in the opposition and not a single member has left it,” he added. In reply to a question regarding the meeting with PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif in Dubai, Pervaiz Elahi denied it, saying no meeting took place in Dubai with Nawaz Sharif. “Neither had I met him nor did I feel any need of it,” he remarked.

When asked about the meeting with Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, Shujaat said the meeting was held but it did not mean that there would be change in the party’s stance. “We are not going to any other side but the other parties come to us. Dialogue always brings positive changes in political atmosphere,” he said. He further said it was the final decision that the party would keep its identity intact and would continue politics from the Q-League platform.

To another question regarding the mid-term elections, he ruled out the chances of mid-term elections in the country, saying the country could not afford the new elections at this time. Asked about the recent statement of Talal Bugti in which he had stated that Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Mushahid Hussain Sayed had assured him that they would become approver against Pervez Musharraf if he registered an FIR on the assassination of Nawab Akbar Bugti, Shujaat denied it, saying they had cordial relations with Nawab Akbar Bugti and never saw Talal Bugti with his father.

“We have relations of respect with Bugti and he always showed his confidence in our family and we had done what we could do for him,” he added. In reply to another question regarding the registration of case against Moonis Elahi in the Punjab, Pervaiz Elahi said it was registered on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. “We are not afraid of such kind of acts of political victimization. Moonis Elahi has just entered politics and our elders have faced the cases of animal thefts and now the cases were framed on factory theft,” he added.

He said those who had spent eight years at the Sarwar Palace did not learn from their past mistakes and were still involved in political victimization of the opponents. Ruling out any differences within the party, he said the party leadership was united and would make all-out efforts to get rid of problems in the country, including power and gas shortage and inflation.

Merger of ‘Q’ and ‘N’ out of question: Moonis Elahi

ISLAMABAD - Terming the merger of PML-Q and “N” out of question’, Moonis Elahi on Wednesday said that his party could go into an alliance either with PPP or PML-N in future but would never sacrifice its individual identity.

“People used to say that PML-Q would vanish with the ouster of General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf, but against the general perception the party has succeeded in maintaining its identity on the basis of its services, it has rendered during its five year tenure, for the masses of Pakistan”, he further said in the exclusive talk with The Nation.

Commenting on recent meeting of Governor Punjab with Chaudhry brothers, he said that parleys were underway with both PPP and PML-N but party’s elders would take the final decision. “Our options are open for both parties but one thing is crystal clear that PML-Q is not advancing for the unification with PML-N”, he added. He said that the party’s central command had proved to all and sundry that it had successfully managed to give new spirit to the party even after February election.

On question of former president’s reported intention to lead PML-Q, Moonis Elahi said that he was legally barred to take part in politics for two years and after this time if he would intend to do so party’s CEC and CWC would mull over it. He admitted that there were a number of PML-Q leaders and parliamentarians who were asking the party to exhibit flexibility towards PML-N rather than forging an alliance with PPP.

He said that the Punjab Government was constantly harassing District Nazims due to their affiliation with ‘Q’ and was dubbing wrongly audit objections as corruption. He said that PPP was sending constant messages to District Nazims to join the party but they are resolute to stand loyal with PML-Q as they have watched our performance in the last five years. When asked whether District Nazims fresh contact with Governor Punjab, Salman Taseer would bring them close to PPP, he said ‘no, they are just asking the Punjab Governor to play his constitutional role and nothing else.

He again refuted the reports of his father’s (Pervaiz Elahi) meeting with PML-N Quaid, Mian Nawaz Sharif in Dubai last week and according to Moonis Elahi PML-N leadership was flying high with inappropriate degree of arrogance. He said that both PPP and PML-N were responsible for persistent tension between them in Punjab as well as the Centre.

“They should come forward to fulfill their promises made with the masses before elections 2008”, he observed.

Moonis Elahi said that PML-Q was ready to sign Charter of Democracy, if the PML-N apologized the nation on supporting long dictatorial rule of General Zia-ul-Haq. “Those, who are asking us to apologize publicly for backing General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf’s military rule, first, feel no reluctance in apologizing the nation on endorsing martial law of Zia”, he observed.

He said that PML-Q was regaining its scattered strength in Punjab Assembly. “A good number of forward bloc members have contacted us and the remaining would also join main stream party in the coming weeks”, he stated. Moonis Elahi said the party’s president, Ch Shujaat Hussain had not yet decided to take part in the upcoming Senate elections.

But if he opts to contest them, all the party MPAs would be at his back. He said that party’s central leader were considering the 18th amendment bill, submitted by Senators Salim Saifullah and Wasim Sajjad in the Upper House Secretariat.
